IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly said: ‘Though numbers are understandably down from earlier in the year, we have the same wide spectrum of roles represented on our ‘Jobs etc’ service. Applicants can still see posts calling for the full range of skills encompassed in the IHBC Areas of Competence, the model we use to manage and assess competence in conservation practice.
…project-linked skills sets tied to IHBC accreditation…
With jobs in the public sector, we can see the classic interdisciplinary Conservation Officer-style roles looming large as ever, including 2 posts in Wychavon. These demand skills that range right across the IHBC Areas of Competence, while the while Hastings’ Heritage Development Officer also looks to that role.
And as the IHBC Areas of Competence model map to project management frameworks, so too IHBC accreditation offers employers unique comfort when assessing candidates’ competence in these roles. Not surprisingly then, in the context of renewal, we see the project-linked skills sets tied to IHBC accreditation highlighted in Heritage Action Zone roles at Newark & Sherwood and BCP – ‘one of the country’s newest and largest unitary authorities… Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole’ – with its call for a HAZ Project Manager.
…broader spectrum of skills…
A more strategic and planning-related role is envisaged in the call from Newark & Sherwood for a Planner (Conservation), while as ever the national regulatory bodies seek high levels of expertise in specific areas, as represented by Historic England’s calls for a List Condition and Coverage Officer and a Senior Policy Adviser (Climate Change).
Meanwhile private sector posts, as usual, reflect the broader spectrum of skills that respond to, in turn, client and public priorities. These may be seen in the call from Janus Conservation for a Senior Historic Building Surveyor and, uncommonly enough, one from government for a Historic Buildings Architect/Surveyor from the Isle of Man.
In summary, recent posts include those below (all with different application dates, some closed and with links inactive):
- Dunstable Town Council: Conservation Accredited Lead Consultant (Tender)
